Engaged? Set your Date – Obviously, you can’t book a photographer unless you know your wedding date.  And moreover, popular dates tend to book quickly – think weekends, dates around holidays, etc.

Call the Photographer! – We know when you’re first engaged, you have plenty on your to-do list to get the wedding planning rolling; we suggest adding “contacting the photographer” to the very top of the list.  The best wedding photographers book months in advance and have very limited availability during peak wedding season (typically May through June and September through October).

Book at the Beginning of the Year – According to ABC News, nearly a fourth of all engagements happen during the holidays (between Thanksgiving and New Year’s).  Get a step ahead of all the other brides by booking as early in the year as possible or even before the new year; your dream photographer will likely have more availability.

Be Prepared to Pay – As with any other wedding vendor, the best will probably cost you a pretty penny so if you’re itching to book one of  New York City’s top photographers, be prepared to allot a significant amount of your budget towards the photography.  That being said, know that many photographers raise their prices at the beginning of the year in anticipation for the upcoming wedding season.  Thus, if you book before the new year, you may be able to save some money!
